J.Lately - "Clean" ft. The Grouch

January 31, 2019 by N3 On The Track in Music, Hip-Hop

We often look at times of struggle and pain as negative experiences, overlooking the opportunity it provides us for growth and renewal. This song is about accepting the inevitable presence of these more difficult times in our lives, and using them to bring us strength and positivity as we move forward. The track features Living Legends emcee The Grouch, who has been someone that's embodied this type of spirit to me throughout his career.

Yuno Verse Feat. Paya For “Walls Of White”

January 29, 2019 by Guest User

It’s been a minute since we heard Yuno Verse’s debut track “Walls Of White,” but the rising artist recently released an equally powerful music video. While Yuno is patiently working on delivering, we're waiting for him to drop off a new project. Thankfully, he is. The Hip Hop artist is getting ready to release his forthcoming project, Massimo’s Pigeon and with “Walls Of White,” he’s delivering a new cut off of the project to build the anticipation.

In this track, the rapper hops on some smooth production and focuses on his unique approach to Hip Hop throughout the record. The release of this music video allowed us to meet the face behind the voice.

Keep your eyes peeled for more new music from Yuno Verse.

Billy Davis - "Shoulda Known" feat. VanJess and Matt McGhee

January 27, 2019 by N3 On The Track in Music, R&B/Soul

‘Shoulda Known’ is an uplifting and energetic track that is full of International flavour, combining neo-soul with elevating Australian-style RNB and is the latest indicator that Billy is forging new territory here and abroad.

'Shoulda Known' was written by Billy Davis, KYE and Matt McGhee and produced by Billy Davis, Fossabeats and Louie Lastic. The track was mixed by Jamie Snell (Nao, Mura Masa, JOY, MØ, Dua Lipa) and mastered by Chris Gehringer (Vince Staples, Leon Bridges, Drake, Rihanna). ‘Shoulda Known’ is the first single off Billy’s forthcoming album, anticipated in 2019. Of the track, Billy explains:

"All this music stuff happened so fast and I'm incredibly thankful and blessed for all the opportunities. But I know along the way I made some mistakes. I prioritised things I shouldn't have and hurt people important to me. In the lead up to my album, which is a tell-tale lesson about everything I’ve learnt, ‘Shoulda Known’ is a cry from myself. It’s about acknowledging that I made mistakes and learning from them.”

Billy Davis’s unique sound, positive approach, and sheer drive has piqued the interest of many international artists, who have become not just contemporaries but friends. He’s collaborated with the likes of Goldlink and Brockhampton, music directing and performing with them both on triple j’s Like A Version, as well as music directing and performing in Goldlink’s NPR Tiny Desk. Meanwhile, Denzel Curry appears on standout track ‘Goldfish’ from his debut album, A Family Portrait, released late last year.

Along with building up a global network of creative collaborators, Billy has shared the stage with Anderson Paak, NoName, Thundamentals and Blackalicious, played at Australia’s most recognised festivals including Let Them Eat Cake, Golden Plains, Laneway Festival, and Lost Paradise, and received accolades from Hypebeast, High Snobiety, LNWY, Acclaim, Purple Sneakers and Red Bull Music, just to name a few.

Billy’s musical inklings began young. Born in the western suburbs of Melbourne, he was raised by his single mother after his father tragically passed away when he was only three. It was another leading figure in his upbringing—his uncle—who first exposed him to artists like the Doobie Brothers, the Bee Gees, and Boney M. These artists, combined with the gospel that he grew up listening to at church, formed his musical foundations from an early age, which you can still see shine through in his eclectic, barrier-less approach to making music.

A musical juggernaut, Billy’s band The Good Lords is constantly evolving, morphing, and expanding, and features up to 11 members on stage at any given moment. Collaboration, with his band and other artists, it at the heart of everything he does.

Last month, Billy Davis was invited to perform for Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex at a reception at Government House that involved young Victorian leaders and community members.

January 27, 2019 by N3 On The Track in Music, Jazz

A trumpet player, producer, educator, music licensing A&R, and family man, Farnell Newton is one of the most versatile musicians in the Northwest, playing straight-ahead jazz, funk, Latin music, soul, hip hop, and more.  His latest album Lofijazzsoul fuses lo-fi hip hop beats, soul music vibes, and jazz instrumentation to create a feel-good masterpiece.

Over the years, Farnell has toured with 3-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/actress Jill Scott, the Legendary Rhinestone Rockstar Funk Bassist Bootsy Collins, and cross-genre ensemble the Portland Cello Project. When Farnell is not performing, he is also composing music at Marmoset where his music has been used for commercials for brands such as Uber, Adidas, Puma, Facebook, and the NFL.

Farnell has teamed up with producer Toranpetto (トランペット), a record producer, composer, and arranger who produces atmospheric instrumental mixes sampling from hip hop, soul, funk, and jazz. Toranpetto and Farnell first met online while on Instagram and decided to collaborate on an album of music sharing their love of jazz, soul and lo-fi hip hop. (“Lofi Hip Hop” refers to a genre of music that mashes up traditional hip-hop and jazz elements to create an atmospheric, instrumental soundscape.)

Alley Boy ft. 21 Savage - "Fish Fry"

January 17, 2019 by N3 On The Track in Music, Rap

Alley Boy is a known name in the rap business. Whether you recognize him from his time with Atlantic Records, his partnership with Master P, or have been around from the days that Duct Tape Entertainment planted their flag in the fertile soil of Atlanta’s hip hop scene. Alley Boy continues to be a presence with both legacy acts and new stars alike.

Sprouting from the concrete of Zone 6, Alley Boy grew to be a voice of the streets - both chronicling the principles of life, and the lack thereof. Always seeing music as secondary, Alley Boy’s releases have been sporadic. Which leads to this last minute enterprise….

The process to releasing Alley God was madness to say the least. Recording over 100 songs during 2018 yet only releasing 3 (Interview, 6 Figures and No Vouchin); Alley felt a New Year’s spurt of energy and jumped back in the studio. This time, everything came together smoothly and in 2 days the tracklist was finalized and Alley boldly set a January 10 drop date.

No pre-promotional planning. Super aggressive release timing. Why the sense of urgency? This is all done in the name of artistry.

Behind the scenes, once the date for “AlleyGod” was announced, Alley Boy was flooded with feature requests. Sticking to his belief in making music with ppl he vibes with, AlleyGod accepted last minute contributions from 21 Savage "Fish Fry", Derez Deshon & Marlo "Grewed Up".

21 Savage goes nuts on Fish Fry while Derez Deshon and Marlo kill the City Girls themed Grewed Up. Alley Boy shines brightest on the solo cuts. While his Duct Tape family make a strong showing with newcomer Ola Runt gettin the Big Bank Black co-sign before the 800BBS crew take full advantage of the posse cut Loaded. B Green, Champ1k, & The Godfather Big Bank Black join Alley Boy in a strong finale to a sure candidate for classic status. Stream AlleyGod wherever you listen to music!

December 31, 2018 by N3 On The Track in Music, Rap

Outta My Business is an uptempo banger from the generally introspective Yogii. From the recently released "Picasso" project, which critics proclaim is a street work of art. DanO - "Blue Flame"

December 31, 2018 by N3 On The Track in Music, Hip-Hop

Nigeria-born, New Jersey-based rapper DanO delivers a brand-new banger, “Blue Flame,” that’s bursting with quotables, raw lyricism, and stellar production from TyCo Beats.

Known for his well received Verses & Hooks series, the Lagos, Nigeria native has made a name for himself with beyond-impressive bars that blend storytelling and braggadocio. He also has a strong ear for production, because the work TyCo does on “Blue Flame” effectively evokes the bluesy-funk spirit felt within the verses.

DanO may be talking his sh*t throughout his latest track, but there’s a rawness to his approach that brings depth and reality to his rhymes. His feelings of being motivated to take his art to the next level is palpable, and you can sense how he makes otherwise-difficult raps sound so effortless, like: “Kickin’ wack to the curb/ Don’t wanna hear that nonsense/ All I do is mess with dimes/ Fuck I’m-a do with nine cents?” There’s a lot to unpack in those rhymes alone, so don’t be surprised if you keep “Blue Flame” on repeat as you decipher every line.

“Blue Flame” is available now through all major digital outlets and streaming platforms via Straight Clutch Entertainment.

Laolu - "Buffering"

December 24, 2018 by N3 On The Track in Music, Indie Pop

Following a career-defining and life-affirming comeback year for British singer, songwriter and musician LAOLU, which has seen the South East London native garner strong support from Spotify, BBC 1Xtra, Clash Magazine, PRS For Music, The Line of Best Fit, Earmilk, Popdust and Nation Of Billions, among others this year, LAOLU is excited to unveil her long-awaited debut EP titled All In Me, as premiered via Gal-Dem.

After nearly three years away from music, because of her battle with depression, LAOLU began teasing her debut EP at the top of the year, with the well-received title track ‘All In Me’, which was championed by The Line of Best Fit and Noctis Magazine. This was followed by the Clash Magazine and PRS For Music supported ‘How To Feel’, and summer single ‘So Right’, which was backed by BBC 1Xtra, Spotify and Earmilk, all culminating in the release of her All In Me EP.

Led by these three singles, the 9-track All In Me EP excellently and honestly represents everything that LAOLU has been through and dealt with on her journey to release this project. The record takes the listener on a journey of her life in the past few years, from tackling depression and the frustrations around quitting music, to her love life and past relationships, to her new experiences, new way of life and the pressures of being a 20 something artist in London.

From the EP’s moody opening track ‘Buffering’, about feeling stuck in life, and the slow-building minimalist MDMA inducing ‘Like That’, to the hazy Jazz-influenced R&B/Soul offering ‘Disconnect’ and the brutally honest and relatable ‘20’s’ about the unrealistic expectations we put on ourselves in our 20’s, the All In Me EP makes for an intriguing listening experience, from start to finish, held together beautifully by LAOLU’s captivating songwriting and enchanting voice.

Speaking about the inspiration behind her All In Me EP, LAOLU says, “This E.P represent a new beginning, I started this E.P almost by force to get out of depression and though it was hard, I continued no matter what. There have been so many bumps and delays along the way but I achieved what I set out to do. New music, released from depression and I am doing what I love and what I am destined to do which is to sing and write music”.
