Jay Z Sends More Subtle Shots At Drake On DJ Khaled's "Shining"

February 13, 2017 by N3 On The Track in Music, Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B/Soul, News

Just when the days of Jay Z and Drake trading sneak-disses seemed behind us, Hov may have just called out the Canadian rhymer on “Shining,” the latest musical offering from DJ Khaled.

After the surprise record dropped Sunday night (February 13), internet sleuths were quick to locate and fastidiously decipher what some see as a diss toward Drizzy.

LOL 🤔@S_C_ pic.twitter.com/FXqYZEzmcY

— Irv (@thisisIRV) February 13, 2017

On “Shining,” which also features Beyoncé, Jay Z raps: “I know you ain’t out here talkin’ numbers, right / I know you ain’t out here talkin’ summers, right / I know you ain’t walkin’ ’round talkin’ down / Sayin’ boss shit when you a runner, right?”

The jab from Jay — who’s known for his many summertime hits — could serve as a response to Drake’s verse on the 21 Savage-assisted “Sneakin.'”

With Drake’s More Life playlist project promised before the end of February, and Jay Z seemingly working on a new project behind the scenes, fans probably won’t have to wait long for the next volley in this war of words.

DaiN - All's Calm ft. Black Spade

February 11, 2017 by N3 On The Track in Music, Hip-Hop, Rap

Mostly known for the hard hitting beats he has crafted for himself, “Treat Yourself” finds DaiN utilizing his unique style to produce for some of the best talents in current Hip-Hop & R&B. The EP features collaborations with Black Spade, LA’s Modern Funk queen Moniquea, Seattle’s Malice & Mario Sweet, Rozzi Daime, and up and coming Portland songstress Blossom.

Drawing inspiration from great producers like J Dilla, DJ Quik, and Kev Brown, DaiN brings a unique swing and style to the table with his signature drums, bass lines, and keys. And, much like DJ Jazzy Jeff’s seminal “The Magnificent”, DaiN’s “Treat Yourself” perfectly melds cutting edge Hip-Hop production with top tier singing and emceeing.

Instantly recognizable with a sound all its own, DaiN’s “Treat Yourself” EP is the release for those who love expertly produced, beat driven R&B and Hip-Hop.

Lucky Dice - Memoirs

February 01, 2017 by N3 On The Track in Music, Hip-Hop, Rap

Boston mainstay Lucky Dice is gearing up to release his hotly anticipated new album, M.O.S.A. (Memoirs of a Starving Artist), in just a few weeks. And based on his new single, “Memoirs,” it’s clear that the rapper is poised to further cement his place in the city’s storied Hip-Hop scene.

The track is a personal and thoughtful look into the life of Dice, who talks candidly about being a struggling underground artist. But he delivers his bars without any bitterness or frustration, just a raw honesty that Hip-Hop heads of all kinds will instantly love. And as for that horns-laden, head-nodding instrumental, it’s from fellow Bostonian Berdz.

Fans of Northeastern rap have become familiar with Dice over the past few decades through his own solo work and frequent collaborations with REKS (who appears on the new album). While Dice has released previous projects such as 2013’s Blowing Smoke, he considers M.O.S.A. his proper debut. So it’s only fitting that the music we’ve heard from it so far— ”The Underground” and “Memoirs”—has been nothing short of outstanding.

“Memoirs” can now be streamed, and is available for download as the first grat track off the iTunes pre-order for M.O.S.A., which drops Friday, February 24th through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms, via Beantown Bullies Music.

Camp Lo - Sparkle (Teck-Zilla Remix)

January 31, 2017 by N3 On The Track in Music, Hip-Hop, Remix

It’s only fitting that Camp Lo’s classic debut, Uptown Saturday Night, would celebrate its 20th anniversary on a Saturday (today, Jan. 28). And to pay homage to one of the album’s standout tracks, producer Teck-Zilla shares his jazzy and smooth remix of “Sparkle.”

As it appears on the album, the track glides by with an effortless swagger thanks to the playful rhymes of Bronx duo Geechi Suede and Sonny Cheeba, and the loungy production of Ski Beatz. And in the hands of the Nigerian-born, Montreal-based Teck-Zilla, the track is still super-chill and ideal for a smoked-out jazz club. You know, kind of like the one depicted on the cover of Uptown Saturday Night.

That is, of course, if the venue has a section for dancing and moving about, because Teck’s remix has a definite swing to it. His beat also injects some new sounds into listening experience, including some infectious horn stabs. And if you’re feeling his work on here, be sure to check out the producer’s latest projects; like last year’s Jackson 5 tribute, Joe Jackson Kids , and his record with rapper Allen Poe, Lightbulb Over My Head While I’m Thinking .

Ran Reed - Pathetic M.C.'s (feat. Bumpy Knuckles)

January 12, 2017 by N3 On The Track in Music, Hip-Hop, Rap

Longtime tri-state area rap bully Ran Reed is here to let every damn wack rapper in earshot know that their days are numbered on his infectious new banger, “Pathetic M.C.’s.” And because his harsh words apparently weren’t enough to drive that point home, he enlisted one of Hip-Hop’s biggest bruisers, Long Island’s Bumpy Knuckles, for a guest feature.

As you may expect, the two complement each other perfectly on here as they trade verses overflowing with tough talk and bravado. That goes for whether Bumpy’s spitting hilarious lines about being the “U.S.S. O.G.,” or Reed is taking down his opponents at the start with: “Rappers ain’t rappin’ no more, they straight mumblin’/ Give them a year, their career start crumblin’.”

Not to be outdone, Reed also produced the snarling, sample-flipping instrumental for “Pathetic M.C.’s,” which was inspired both sonically and conceptually from Ultramagnetic MC’s time honored classic, “Ego Trippin’.” You can expect to hear more cuts like this on Reed’s heavily anticipated new release, Still Commanding Respect.

“Pathetic M.C.’s” can now be streamed, and is available for download as the third and final instant grat track off the iTunes pre-order for Still Commanding Respect, which drops this Friday. The LP includes features from Kool G Rap, M.O.P. Bumpy Knuckles, Sadat X, and U.G. among others, and will also be available for purchase on CD, exclusively through Fifth Element.
